Lots of good ideas in this piece. But here's a thought: stop grasping around for human leaders.

Some people need to be led. That might be a useful distinction for humans and other herd animals. People who don't need constant direction and support from the herd are closer to the machines than they realize. Weren't you thinking of developing an app for something recently? Sounded like you have a rapport with your machines.

Training a horse to gallop doesn't make me a horse.

People who don't seek constant direction and support are more machine-like than those who do? That's a new one.

And training a dog to run doesn't make the dog, or me, a horse. But we're all related. Dogs and horses who act like dogs and horses and affiliate with their herds are more identifiable as dogs and horses. Some dogs who live with humans acquire some of the traits of their human companions, and the humans with their dogs. The distinctions blur as the mergers increase. We who speak the language of machines and write instructions for them to cooperate with humans, merge their separate but cooperating domains. I find ChatGPT more human than many approval seeking humans addicted to their safe spaces. Orthodoxy is just a primitive form of programming. As machine programming improves (and human programming apparently devolves), that distinction will merge. Eventually, the idiots will be the only true humans. Imagining humans are superior is what makes us human. Poets call it hubris. Learning how much we have in common with our non biological offspring makes us wise humans.

Each act of kindness sends a ripple of goodness out into the world. Many acts of kindness send a wave out into the world. Just one act of kindness a day by everyone could indeed change the world over time. It did not get this bad overnight so it will take time and effort to change it, please do not stop believing it can be done. That is when all is lost.

Great article. "He left (AEI) to focus on happiness"- how many people can say that?

Love your picture, btw :)
